How come they don't make the Super Mario Bros. games more "realistic"?

In the original Mario Bros. game Mario and Luigi are running around in a Brooklyn basement exterminating pests that emmanate from pipes:

In the Super Mario games, Mario and Luigi warp or pass through pipes. If they are plumbers how come they don't use plumbing tools to open or unclog the pipes to warp or pass through them? Maybe they can acquire the tools along the way to help them access the pipes. That would make the games more interesting. Would you agree? How come they don't make the Super Mario Bros. games more "realistic"?
Because of supply and demand...nobody wants reality in video games now-a-days, especially if it's got anything to do with work. Games are an escape from reality....I mean....c'mon! Do you think anyone would have bought it?

Not to mention it kind of cancels out with the fact that Mario was first in an arcade game where he dodged barrels and rescued a princess from an evil monkey...How come they don't make the Super Mario Bros. games more "realistic"?
for one its a very old game there not going to be realistHow come they don't make the Super Mario Bros. games more "realistic"?
No. Being more realistic would not make the series any better. By the way, that game is just as realistic as all the others. It's the game where the POW block is on the bottom and enemies (crabs and koopas, boos and fireballs) come endlessly.

Honestly, would you like to play a game where you have to walk around towns and unscrew stuff and pour drain-o down the other characters' pipes?
