I mean, the game could just as easily be Super Luigi. And why does Mario always get the girl? He's shorter and fatter...

Mario is the elder brother and starred in the Donkey Kong games. Maybe if Luigi were born first he would be the star. Still, Luigi is getting more respect and even starred in his own game a few years back.
