Why do these always make luigi seem like a hopeless retard?

luigi is funny and my favorite mario character, but in galaxy he just gets lost all the time[you play as him after you beat the game with mario, but while you are mario, he is dumb and gets lost].Why do these always make luigi seem like a hopeless retard?
Luigi has forever been cast as the "lovable sidekick". Mario is the hero, and needs a funny friend, as all heroes do ;)
He's the comic reliefe...poor bastard. I want another game with him though like Luigi's mansion. Though he sux compared to mario in almost everything, the fine line is Smash Bros where he is like 90% better just not as fast and some moves are weaker.

Never used to be that way, I can remember when he was Mario's equal.. D: Nintendo just decided to take his personality in another direction I guess.
